Abet

Abet – this term literally means “help in wrongdoing”. It finds application in the Criminal Law. There it refers to the act of advising, helping or treating another person to commit a crime or to do a fraud. This crime will usually benefit you, although you are not the actual one who committed it. In many jurisdictions for some heavy crimes, such activity is a subject of a punishment, where on the criminal trial the court will equally punish a person who helps or advises another person to commit a crime or to do a fraud.

Synonyms of “abet” are “accessory” or “accomplice”.
