Appurtenance – the term refers to something that, although detached, stands as part of another thing. It represents an attachment or appendage to something else. The term often finds application in the area of Real Estate Law. There an “appurtenance” may be, for example, a minor right. For example, a right-of-way over water, which, although physically detached, is part of the legal rights of the owner of another real estate.
