Challenge for cause – in most jurisdictions this phrase refers to a situation that occurs where the defendant or their lawyer requests that the judge should discharge a potential juror from serving on a jury, together with providing a valid legal reason why they shouldn’t participate in the concrete lawsuit. Usually this is done in situations where there are signs that a member of the court jury is personally interested in the outcome of the lawsuit.
