Champerty – in many jurisdictions this legal term refers to a situation where a person agrees to finance someone else’s lawsuit (i.e. to cover their expenses in exchange for a portion of the judicial award. In other words, it is considered as investment in a lawsuit. But in other jurisdictions this is not legally allowed, because there the lawsuits are considered as a way of protection of personal rights, but not a business deal consisting of a commercial risk for making profit.
