Charging lien

Charging lien – in most jurisdictions this legal term refers to reserved right for a lawyer on respective part of the sum won for their client on a civil lawsuit, in order to cover their legal fees against the work already done by the lawyer for winning the lawsuit. In other words, in such case the lawyer is entitled to get part of the awarded money by court in favor of their client.

* Note that lawyers are not free advisors and they do not work for free; their job is paid just like any other type of job. When you ask a lawyer for consultation or legal representation, it is the same like if you visit a doctor and pay for review and medical treatment.
