Ranking element

Ranking element – this term literally means the higher institution. For instance, within the court system, a higher institution would be the body of the higher or the Supreme Court, compared to the lower instance courts. Supreme court is the last appellate instance in one jurisdiction with powers to revise decisions of lower courts. These are obliged to follow its binding decisions, interpretations of the Law, instructions, etc.

In the Administrative law, the term may refer to the upper personnel or the higher chief in authority. He can supervise and rule the activities of the lower personnel.
