Parenting contract – this legal phrase is used mainly in Divorce Trials in some legal systems, where both ex-spouses decide who will exercise the physical custody of the children – namely who will organize and administer the day to day residential care, feed and parental supervision of a child, and who will perform the legal custody, which sets which person will make decisions on behalf and in the name of the child. Usually the ex-spouses agree via signing a parenting contract that the children will live together with one of the parents only, while the other parent will visit them from time to time, while the legal custody is mutual only. Usually the parenting contract is implemented in the text of the court decision, which is called “parenting order”. Somewhere a synonym is “parenting plan”.
