Pars viscerum matris – this legal phrase comes from Latin and means “part of the body of its mother”. In terms of Criminal Law it is used to refer to a situation where killing of an unborn child will not be punished by courts, because it did not have a separate, individual existence apart of the mother’s body. It should be separated from the “partial birth infanticide”, which represents killing of a born child which has not been yet detached from its mother (i.e. the stomach pipe has not been cut-off yet).
