Actor sequitur forum rei  – this phrase comes from Latin. Literally it means “The plaintiff follows the forum of the property in lawsuit”. Nowadays in the area of Civil Law it refers to a legal maxim, ordering that a claimant should initiate legal proceedings in the court, located in the area where the disputed subject, or the defendant is situated. For example, you wish to submit a possession claim about a real estate, located in Chicago, USA. You should not be entitled to enter your claim in London, the UK.  Or you wish to sue for tort a person whose address is in Miami – you can’t sue them in Russian court of Law.
