Privilege

Privilege – this term refers to a special and exclusive legal advantage or right such as a benefit, exemption, power or immunity. An example would be in the area of Litigation procedures, and namely the special privileges that particular creditors have in a bankruptcy to recoup their debts from the bankrupt’s estate before other, non-privileged creditors. Another example of the privilege is the relation between a lawyer and their client, made in a situation and place of privacy (for example, the law-office). The goal of the privilege is to enable people to speak with professionals and to seek help even if their statement would lead to criminal conviction in other cases. Synonyms are “entitlement” and “prerogative”.
