Promise to marry

Promise to marry – this legal term is used in the area of Family Law, where refers to a given statement by a person that they will marry their lover/partner. Usually the promise of marriage is recognized as a verbal contract. Some jurisdictions which recognize it as legally binding contract, also set liabilities for broken promise to marry (i.e. for breach of promise), as it affects the person who believed in this promise and waited on it to become true.
