Remote cause

Remote cause – this legal term usually finds application in the area of Tort Law in some jurisdictions. There it details a cause, which has risen with a claim for damages. But this particular cause is indirect to the damage so usually the court should not consider it when deciding on the case, and respectively – should not award compensation for remote cause. The origin of the term is the word “remote”, which literally means “far, not close, distance (in time for example)”. Synonyms or “remote cause” are “distant cause”, “far cause”.
