Restriction – this term is used in the area of Administrative Law, where refers to legal prohibition against the use of something or against certain conduct. It is usually implemented in official order by the authorities – verbal or written. This restriction could be temporary or permanent, and usually there can not be any questioning or appeal against it. The goal is to save the public peace and order, or to prevent the citizens from eventual injuries or death. For example, a restriction could be governmental prevention for passing through certain State roads, due to very bad weather condition. Synonyms are forbiddance, injunction, prevention and prohibition. A synonym is “restraint”.
