Riparian water rights

Riparian water rights this legal term has got application in the Real Estate Law in the Common Law systems. It details special rights of people who own land that runs into a river bank, to allocate part of it for personal use (this is why they are called “riparian owners”). While it does not represent a clear ownership right, riparian rights usually include the right of access to, and usage of water that neighbors the land for personal needs (washing, bathing, etc.). Different jurisdictions set up different legal rules for exercising the riparian rights – for example it may include constructing a water collector to supply the land crops with water from the river.
