Casus belli – this legal term comes from Latin. It has been used in the area of Military Law in the past centuries, where referred to offenses or threats spread directly against another nation or country. Therefore a defense rising as effect from these actions would then not be considered as illegal actions. A synonym is “casus foederis”, which details a treaty, forwarded by one nation towards another.
