Bastard – within the meaning of the Family Law, the term details the legal figure of an illegitimate child. A child which is born in a relationship between two persons who are not married (ie. not in a valid wedlock). Or who are not married at the time of the child’s birth. In many jurisdictions, such child has the same inheritance rights as these children, born within marriage. As long as these have been officially recognized as children by their parents. In some legal systems, these children (usually acting via their mother) have the right to claim fathership in court against a particular man, who the mother claim is the actual father of this child.
