Chasten

Chasten – this verb has two different meanings, depending of where it has got application:

1) In the area of Criminal Law it means to punish somebody for a wrongful action, which is against the law and which injure others. Administrative authorities issue tickets, prohibitions and fines, and the court usually awards compensation and jail punishment for the criminal.

2) In the Administrative Law, “chasten” means to restrict somebody from performing a certain legal action. For example, the government issues an order that on certain dates the drivers should not use their cars due to repair works.
