Claim – in most jurisdictions this term details the written request (together with its attachments) by a claimant towards the court, for proceeding to start against somebody (who is called “defendant”). Or alternatively, it could refer to the right to lodge an application for recovering a debt at the civil court. The claim and its attachments is usually prepared by a litigation lawyer, who may lodge it on behalf of their client (the plaintiff) via power of attorney, and defends it in court.
