Guardian ad litem – From Latin: This legal term is used to describe the figure of a legal guardian appointed by court with the capacity to assist an infant or other mentally incapable defendant or plaintiff, or any such incapacitated person that may be a party in a legal action – i.e. “guardian ad litem” has been appointed in relation to certain legal matters only.
