Marriage – within the area of Family Law, the term refers to the governmentally-recognized, voluntary and exclusive contract for the lifetime uniting of two private individuals of the opposite sex gender in most jurisdictions. Juridical phrase is “wedlock” and in many counties there is Family Code setting the conditions for marriage. Most countries do not yet recognize marriage between same-sex couples or polygamous marriages.
