Opinion

Opinion – the term describes a statement by the judge, used mostly to define the concrete legal decision taken; i.e. their written explanation of the taken decision. In some legal systems, if the case has been heard by 3 or more judges, all of them have to sign the common opinion, and the judges who did not agree with the majority may write down that they have “a separate opinion”. Only the majority opinion can serve as binding precedent in future cases, the last allowed in some jurisdictions only. Also the term “opinion” could be understood as “legal opinion”, given by a lawyer on a concrete legal issue towards a client, against remuneration. Lawyers do not work for free; their job is paid, so when asking a lawyer for their legal opinion on a concrete legal issue, you should pay them for their opinion and legal advice; it is the same like when you visit a doctor and pay for diagnose and medical treatment.
