Priors – this term could have two different meanings:
– it is used in the area of Criminal Law in some jurisdictions, where it refers to the criminal history of the convicted person. Namely to the recorded criminal history (like prison record) which can affect the outcome of the current proceedings against him/her (for example, previous charges can lead to bigger punishment now).
– it is used in the area of Inheritance Law, where it details the figure of the ancestor who has died and has left an inheritance pot of probate assets, to be distributed among the heirs. A synonym is “forebear”
