Renounce -within the area of Court Trials in some legal systems this legal term details the act of pulling statements or testimonies back by the party which has made it. In other words – this is the act of not supporting an opinion or belief, previously placed in court. For example this happens when a witness decides to change their previously given testimony (because initially given under threats or in improper mental condition). So the witness renounces their statement in order to influence the path of the case. Synonyms of “renounce” are “abdicate”, “recant” and “relinquish”.
