Renunciation

Renunciation – this legal term literally means “giving up” and has several different meanings, depending of where it has got application:

1) Within the area of Criminal Law it details the refusal to continue conviction, due to legal reasons.

2) In the sphere of Civil Trials it details the act of giving up the submitted litigation claim against the debtor (usually due to the fact that the debtor has suddenly paid their debt towards the creditor-claimant).

3) Within the meaning, given by the Inheritance Law, renunciation is refusal for acceptance of inheritance pot. Usually this act is done by a heir due to tax reasons, or where there is a will to gift the other heirs and respectively to increase their own share of the inheritance assets.

Synonyms of “renunciation” are “abdication” and “abandonment”.
