Retaliation – this legal term literally means “revenge” or “vengeance”. Most legal systems do not allow the retaliation as a punishment for harmed personal rights. This role has been given to worldwide recognized authorities called “courts” which decide on the justice and deliver sanctions and punishment.

The word also applies in the sphere of Labor Law, where relates to the term “retaliatory action”, being an illegal release from work of employee, usually because the employee has submitted a claim against their chief. A similar term is “retaliatory discharge”.
