Approver – this legal term finds application in the area of Criminal Law. There it refers to the figure of a person who has been convicted of heavy crimes and confesses his guilt before pleading guilty or not guilty. Together with it the convicted gives to the investigators the names of his accomplices of the same felony, in order to achieve release for himself. Or alternatively to reach a smaller penalty or time in jail.
Almost every jurisdiction sets up a less heavy punishment for convicted criminals who decide to collaborate with the police. A synonym is the legal term “probate person”.
