Burden of proof – Used in the area of Court Trials, the term refers to the rule of evidence that makes a person prove a certain thing or the opposite will be assumed by the court. In civil cases, the claimant has the burden of proof to prove their point. In criminal trials, the prosecution has the burden of proving the accused guilt because innocence is presumed.
