Recant

Recant – within the area of Court Trials in some legal systems this legal term details pulling statements or testimonies back. In other words – not supporting an opinion or belief, placed previously. For example, this happens when a witness decides to change their previously given testimony (because given under threats or in improper mental condition).

Example: “I recant you were guilty of committing this crime”.

A synonym is “renounce” or “repudiate”.
