Restraining order

Restraining order – this legal term is used in the area of civil proceedings in some jurisdictions, where usually details an order or command, issued by a judge to prevent or stop one person from committing certain offences against others – i.e. to avoid further harassment towards the victim of a crime. For example, the judge may order to the offender not to get closer than 100 feet to the victim for a period of 10 years. A synonym is “protective order”.
