Return of service

Return of service – this legal term applies in the area of court proceedings, where refers to a document that certifies the recipient of court documents has received these and very important – it acknowledges he/she has been informed about their content. Basically it confirms that the court employee has performed properly their duty to inform the recipient about the orders by the court and about the given deadlines in which the court expects to see a concrete behavior. This is why somewhere return of service is made by oath. Then on a later stage the participant in the court process cannot claim they have never been informed by the court and wouldn’t act properly because of it. The origin of the term is the word “return”, which within the meaning given by the Law means that a court document has to be brought back by the court employee or by the bailiff who had to serve it to the participants in the legal procedures.
