Wire-tapping – An electronic surveillance device which allows recording of conversations held over the phone. It is usually only allowed with the permission of a judge and if it can be shown to be necessary for the solving of a serious crime. In some countries using such devices by the investigation authorities has been set-up with a specific Act for the special investigating devices.
