Blasphemy – this legal term finds application in the area of Canon Law, where it details the act of desecration, pollution. In other words – treating or using something that is sacred with irreverence. For example, within the sphere of Criminal Law in many legal systems, this term details a robbery of sacral items in a church. Such a crime against the beliefs of people receives serious punishment by the Law.

This term could also have the meaning of entering into the unworthy or improper usage of something. A usage which controverts the issued instructions for the used item.

Synonyms of blasphemy are defilement, desecration, impiety, profanation, and sacrilege.
